It's a long steady grade for westbound trains across Nebraska. The curves between Lincoln and Crete make it real tough for heavy freights to get going. In the days of steam, long westbound freights coming out of Lincoln required double-headed mikes up until they got O5s. You may not believe it but there's a 4000 ft climb from Iowa to Colorado.
