Not to quibble with Mike, but the decals are available through Jerry Hamsmith
as well as through Sunshine. (I bought mine from Jerry) I believe that
Sunshine bought the car specific set through Jerry. Jerry often comes to the
Spring Meet, so he might have some decals there. (another reason to come to
Mendota!)
Concerning your question on the troop kitchens, they lasted up to the end.
There were also 300 of them, so they were much more common than the 50' cars.
See any picture of the Coloradoan or later the Nebraska Zephyr and you
usually see these cars in the consist. Also on the Ak-Sar-Ben Zephyr and #7.
There was also a discussion on the Pennsy list about the cars traveling east
on PRR trains.
Rumor has it that eventually, the "Jeeps" (troop kitchens) will be done by
Intermountain (that would make my 15 brass jeeps diminish in value --
wouldn't it?)
