Thanks for the comeback, too, Mike. Now you've got me wondering what would be a good starting point to model the 40 foot car as well - Any ideas? How long were they in service?

BTW, Marion Brasher of The Valley Roundhouse in Spring Valley, IL (about ten minutes down the road from me) mentioned something about you wanting to go through some old slides in his collection. Thought you might like to know that he is now online at valleyrndhouse@a... in case you need to correspond with him.

Rich's comments are 99% on target. I did use the Proto 2000 50' single
door boxcar, with marker light brackets from Custom Finishes added on
each corner. Look on page 31 of ZEPHYR #39 and you can clearly see the
market bracket locations.

A point of clarification. The decals came from Sunshine Models, not from
Jerry. Sunshine sells a specific decal set for their resin model of the
CB&Q 40' express boxcar. I used this set, making the assumption that the
Q would have used the same lettering standard for both the 40' and 50'
express cars, all of which were placed in express service between June
1944 and June 1945 (see BURLINGTON BULLETIN # 7 pages 8-9).

I have only seen 2 B&W photos of the 50' express cars, so photographic
information so far is very limited. No color shots have been turned up,
so I think we are pretty much in the dark when it comes to the "right"
green on these cars.

I hope this helps. It is an easy to car to model. Only a few were still
around after 1953 and all were back in freight service or off the roster
by 1966.
