The first GP38-2 was built in January 1972, nearly two years after the BN merger. The roster in the BN 1971 Motive Power Annual lists none of the merged locos as GP38, jumping instead from GP35 to GP

Bill, As mentioned by others, these were straight CB&Q, not FW&D or C&S. But there is a difference between the twenty 600 series GP40's and the twenty 100 series (170-189) GP40's: The 620-639 had bla

OK, I understand it, there were no GP-40's on the FW&D, and I was aware of the differences in the mergers of the C&S and FW&D into the CB&Q/BN all being on different dates. We/I also now know there w

Neither the CS nor the FWD were merged into the CBQ, both of them outlasted the CBQ.  The CBQ was part of the 2 Mar 1970 merger that created the BN.  You couldn't have seen the FWD GP38-2's in the 19

Bill, you couldn't have seen the FWD GP38-2's in the 1970's since they weren't built until Jun 1980.  The CBQ DID  have GP40's, 170-189, built Dec 1966, order 7940, builder #'s 32566-32585.     Norm

The BRHS roster does not show GP40s 620-639 as FW&D units, it shows them correctly as CB&Q units. And the FW&D GP38-2s were post-merger power and thus are not included in the roster on the BRHS websi

Norm, Agree of course! Sorry for the poor wording, I was fixated on the period I was there in total which was the 1970's to mid 80's. If they were delivered in Jun1980 and I was railfanning the joint
