Bill,

As mentioned by others, these were straight CB&Q, not FW&D or C&S. But there is a difference between the twenty 600 series GP40's and the twenty 100 series (170-189) GP40's: The 620-639 had black on white number boards, like the GE's used. GP40's 170-189 used the standard EMD-style white on black number boards. I am not sure why the Q changed the number board colors on these locomotives, which were built in February 1968 and the last EMD's delivered to the Q in Chinese Red. (BTW, the C&S Chinese Red SD40's were built in 1967 and had the standard white on black number boards.)

What is the story about these units?  Delivered in 1968 I believe.  They are in the society rosters I have seen.   How were they painted on delivery?  Red?  Were they sublettered?  Did they get green paint before or after the merger?  were they sublettered in the  green paint?   Did they run through to Denver?  How were they used?  Anyone have any images??

Thanks, Bill
