Yes, that is an interesting observation of Burwell, Philip. From the fairly coarse Schuyler photo (the snip I posted, I had already enlarged and interpolated) it does look like it may have had a pit.

My impression is that turntables were more expensive to install and maintain than wyes, since I can think of several instances on the Q and C&S where an original turntable was replaced by a wye. But
