I don’t know what motor will fit yet.  When my repair guy gets it worked out, I will report back.  I’m hoping for a 22x30 Maxon A-Max motor:  burly and smooth, but that may be a pipe dream because of size.  He knows to get the most motor into a model he can, given speed objectives and backhead placement constraints.

I have an S-2 I bought new and it has been a good runner all these years. 

I have not replaced the motor but would like to (Eric if you could mention what motor you used I would appreciate it).

One thing I did do was replace the driver springs with softer springs and I more than doubled the number of cars I could pull.

I found one of the LMB S-2a's you mentioned. With can motor, for a bit over $300. Now I just have to get my wife to agree...
