Hank Balinsky was a Burlington fan and modeler of the first water.
He wrote the O Scale construction article in the November 1955 Model Railroader that accompanied the J. Harold Geisel drawings of the NM-2 CB&Q bobber.
Later, he did the masters for the No. 7 truck frame, end platform/steps/stub frame, windows, and cupola for the All-Nations Line O Scale waycar kit.
Originally living on the south side of Chicago, he moved to Kenosha, WI where he and his son had their homes and Maxine shop business.
As a result of his interest in collecting railroad lanterns, he came across some one quarter-size salesman samples of couplers. Of course, this meant he had to build a 3”=1‘-0” railroad to use them on!
He built perfect models of CB&Q Class A, freight cars, and, of course, an NM-2.
Unfortunately, Hank passed away a number of years ago. He was buddies with Carl Ulrich, who modeled a live steam GN 4-8-0. I believe that Carl was the primary source of the marvelous Q drawings that enabled Hank to build such wonderful models.

According to the photo credits in the Waycar books, his first name is Hank or Henry. Jim Sandrin
All,
I am working on accessioning the Jim Seacrest CB&Q negative collection at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum. I have come across a photographer with the last name of Balinsky and am unable to find his first name. Does anyone know? The negative in question was taken in 1965 in Cicero, Illinois, if that helps at all.
Thanks!
