I met Hank in about 1960 at Carl Ulrich's house in Evanston, after I rode the Illini Club Colorado trip in June. I was in High School, living in Lincolnwood, and wanted to build a 1-1/2" scale D&RGW C-16. Carl was showing me his 'lost foam' method of making castings for his engine. It involved building up the pattern out of Styrofoam, ramming it up in the sand like a usual pattern, then leaving it in and burning it out with the molten metal. Btw...Carl's engine was such an accurate 1-1/2" scale model, that the gauge was 7-1/16". Not very practical, but accurate. Mike _._,_._,_ Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
