Herewith several additional considerations for those depicting GP7s Nos. 200-239 circa 1953.
By (or during) 1953, the relocation of the forward-facing horn on Nos. 200-239 to the top of the short hood had begun (or had been completed); a December 1953 photo of No. 220 shows that placement as does an August 1954 photo of No. 200. Another in-service pic of No. 209 in April 1952 shows the original forward-facing horn placement. The April '52 and December '53 images are indicative of a program modification that, once initiated, appears to have been pursued with some deliberate haste.
Several (additional) published photos tend to support this conclusion. No. 201 in May 1952 (p. 40 of the 2010 hardcover edition of The High Plains Route) with original front-facing horn placement; No. 217 in October 1953 (p. 142 of The Hub of Burlington Lines West and [same photo] p. 92, original [1986 soft-cover] The High Plains Route) with relocated front-facing horn; No. 227 in April 1953 (p. 113 of A History of the CB&Q Quincy Branch) with original front-facing horn placement. Why the Burlington quickly relocated the forward-facing horn on Nos. 200-239 when so many other GP7 owners never did suggests the possible involvement of the BofLE&F.
Elimination of both the end-platform drop-down steps (initially) and replacement of safety chains with solid handrail sections (subsequently) came later. In December '53, No. 220 retained the (front) factory-applied drop-down "step" and safety chain; by August '54, No. 200 had lost the (rear) drop-down step but still had the safety chain. (Several published views of Nos. 200-239 in the late 1950s show the safety chains still intact.)
To paraphrase the Superintendent's General Notice, "be governed accordingly."

The single bell Leslie A-200 Tyfon horn was the EMD basic application for a GP7 with one located on the right side short hood facing forward and one on the left side long hood behind the cab facing to the rear. Customers could order any other horn application in any other location that they wanted at additional cost. As I recall, EMD started applying steel bells in place of brass bells about the mid 1970s. It was a theft deterrent. When the GP7s were built, brass bells were standard. A GP7 might have had a replacement steel bell if its original bell was damaged or stolen. I don’t know what Q’s or BN’s practices. were for replacement.

Two CB&Q Phase II GP7s arrived in the mail today, and for the first time the decoder has steel and bronze bell sound options. I would expect the Q to use bronze bells on GP7s, but I thought I better check. There are 16 horn options to choose from, and I would guess that the GP7s had Leslie Tyfon A-200 horns, but I’m open to correction. I have a photo of CB&Q 209 with a chime horn that appears to be a Leslie A-125 and A-200 combo on the short hood. Other photos (CB&Q 216, etc.) show one A-200 on the short hood pointing forward and another A-200 on the left side pointing to the rear. The models have single horns on the short hood forward and the left side pointing to the rear. Were both of these horns A-200s or something else? The model road numbers are 202 and 226 if that helps.
I haven’t compared the models to Phase II drawings yet, but out of the box they look pretty good. It sure is nice to have a commercial model come with correct Mars lights, headlights, steam generator, winterization hatches, heater cabinet and vent, and cab window shades. They came with LokSound 5 decoders, and my next activity is to program the long address and see how they run.
