I’ve done a lot of professional writing during my microbiology career – 29 peer reviewed journal articles, 9 reference book chapters, uncounted newsletter articles,
and many technical documents for EPA, a few for FDA, and one for the National Research Council. I’d be willing to write an article if I had enough information on a topic, but I don’t have access to source material for research and absolutely no first-hand
experience with the CB&Q. I lived in Florida until 1953, then Alaska until 1959, then back to Florida. Provide the information, and I can certainly write the article.

Subject: Re: [CBQ] CB&Q Weigh Station Reporting Marks
I currently have well north of six major articles in the works for the Bulletin. I was looking for new volunteers.
Leo, it sounds like you just volunteered to write the article. Information is trickling in, so maybe we’ll have a relatively complete list of reweigh station before
too long. The unanswered question is about when scale tracks were built and when they were no longer used. Another complication is that Jerry Hamsmith told me that some Q reporting marks changed with the BN merger to avoid duplication with the GN and NP. That
means we modelers need two lists, one before the merger and one after. Us steam and transition era modelers only need the CB&Q list.
I’ll post my corrected and updated Q list in a few days after folks have had a chance to review it.

Aurora’s scale was between the car and paint shops and the storehouse.
Eola had two scales. West yard was on the scale/waycar track just below the roundhouse.
East yard was in the middle of track ten (at least that’s what my memory is telling me. Can’t find a track station diagram right now that shows either scale.
The R.I.P. tracks in both the East and West yards were equipped for light or running repairs so reweighs there would not be associated with major repairs or conversions as done at Aurora shops.
Of course a car could be weighed and restencilled anytime something seemed out of place about it. Might be interesting for members to learn the actual process for weighing a typical car. Hint, you didn’t just set it on the scale.
