Thread-topic: [CBQ] Interesting Locomotive Consists (and possible location info)

Tristan:

the NYC/PC power came regularly into Denver from Chicago on any of the regular freights, and most of the time it was in running order.  Any units dead by the time they reached Lincoln westbound would have been cut out there.  When a dead unit did reach Denver, if the problem was minor it would be corrected here, but surprisingly most of the time the foreign power came in running and departed running.

Hol,

What were the chances that the foreign power was actually usable?  Typically, we will send 3-4 NS and CSXT units at a time back to Chicago from Northtown.  Usually they are dead due to mechanical issues.

Tom:

The photo was taken by my good friend Ken Crist at the east (38th St.) end of the Q's 38th Street freight yard in Denver.  The power had come up from the 23rd St. roundhouse/diesel shop/servicing facilities and would shortly couple on to an eastbound freight.  You can see the foothill of the Rockies in the background.

This duplicate slide is on ebay. CB&Q U28B 108 leads a U25C followed by four NYC U25/28B's!  https://www.ebay.com/itm/Duplicate-Slide-CB-Q-Burlington-Route-U28B-108-5/401979653109

Does anyone recognize where the above picture was taken?

Next, for those interested in adding one of the new Atlas Phase II U28C's to your layout (assuming they do UP in their first offering), a shot of CB&Q GP30 970 leading a UP U28C (looks like number 2808): https://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-039-69-Kodachrome-Slide-CB-amp-Q-Burlington-Route-970-GP30-Galesburg-IL-10M31-/372855447865?ul_noapp=true&nma=true&si=0phcaohxUek8u0A9lFIB7Lu9CKg%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

I show another UP U28C in a Q consist in Denver in 04-1970 (photo in BN 1973 Motive Power Annual) as well.
