[Edited Message Follows]

Were there gas electric engines in the late 1930s or were the local passenger trains (like the one in question which ran from Galesburg to Ottumwa) all Doodlecars?

J.D.'s grandson (my 88 year-old uncle) gave me the information about the engine number in a phone call last night. He lives and breathes the CB&Q. I would love to confirm the information and get a record of the engines J.D. Toal engineered, but I don't know where to get that information.
