Bill,

I suspect the different newspaper editors operated on a different basis. The first looks to be listing all trains that pass through Downers Grove. I say this because according to the employee timetables referenced in my article the dedicated milk trains did not carry passengers between Aurora and Chicago. Also while it may have happened I would question whether long distance trains to St Paul and/or CA would be stopping in a town the size of Downers Grove. They sure didn't in more modern times when the town was much larger.

The second editor looks to be listing trains that passengers can actually board at Downers Grove.

Another possibility is that if these were listings supplied by the local agent then the Q at about this time changed Downers to strictly a suburban train station.

Thanks Leo,

I may well have several questions.

For now, I wonder whether you may know why the milk train "disappears" from the Downers Grove train schedule in mid-1904 as shown by the attachments.  For a few years the Downers Grove weekly consistently showed the Milk express departing east at 0840.  Then under a newly revised format, the Milk express no  longer appears (same for the return trip). Management of the newspaper did change about the same time so it's not clear to me whether the milk run continued but the newspaper itself no longer listed it.

Thanks,
Bill Joyce

Bill,

If, after reading the article you still have questions let me know as I have material that didn't make it into the article on the subject of milk on what Burlington employees referred to as the "east end"

Thanks very much for your reply to my request about the Aurora-Chicago milk train.  I'm going to order your Bulletin 51.  FYI: my specific focus is Westmont Station, previously Greggs and originally Bushville, or Bush Station.  Bill Joyce
