Regarding the CBQ connection to the U.S. Wind Engine and Pump Company,

According to Batavia, Illinois, Windmill Collection: A Mechanical Engineering Landmark:
Batavia resident, engineer and investor John Van
Nortwick (then with the Chicago Burlington & Quincy rail-
road) was added as a partner and the U.S. Wind Engine &
Pump Company was created in 1857 in Batavia with just a
few employees.??

Supposedly this company had its first meeting at the Q's offices in Chicago, so perhaps that was indicative of lasting ties between the two companies.
