Thread-topic: [CBQ] National Malleable advert

Gerry

I’ve been researching the Grant Loco Works, built at Cicero in 1892 and constructor of some K-2’s, for a Burlington Bulletin article. The premises were purchased in 1902 by National Malleable which occupied them under various company names until about 2001 – haven’t found an exact date – hence my interest. There are a number of maps, including Sanborn maps, of the premises (and the location of the CB&Q tracks) at Library of Congress.

As per an earlier e-mail, the company used CB&Q equipment in at least two of its adverts for National B Trucks.

According to a brief summary at http://www.encyclopedia.chicagohistory.org/pages/2788.html,
"National Malleable purchased the Latrobe Steel & Coupler Co.'s plant in Melrose Park, Illinois in 1909."

The 1909 Sanborn map of the Latrobe facility is attached.?? (That's the only one I found at the Library of Congress.)?? Google maps shows almost no trace remaining today.??
