Rupert:
Indeed the Q did have a fleet of 1968 for Econoline vans purchased for the customer service program inaugurated that year that replaced agents at small depots with customer service agents who traveled their territory in the vans and functioned as the
local agent in each town. The photo is quite clearly an early post-merger view of one of those vans with a BN logo placed over the BR herald on the sides. The agent probably was given only two of the logos and thus didn't have enough for the rear doors.
It didn't take BN very long to eliminate the program.

Ok, thanks. Perhaps that is the answer. Can anyone confirm that the CB&Q had any of these vans?

It's a second generation Ford Econoline - same basic body style was used from 1968-1974.

I thought of that but the van looks too modern for 1970. I don’t know anything about U.S. vans - perhaps someone could date the it.

Just a guess since I don’t know when the photo was taken. Could this have been taken right after the merger and they slapped the BN sticker on the Q customer service van?
