Pete - You're entirely correct, I've slipped a tire on my main driver..... I had meant to say Table Rock, not Nebraska City.  I've had a lot on my mind the past couple of days. Thanks for explaining the use of the two-step step box shown in the Pioneer Zephyr image. Merry Christmas - Louis

Louis..I think you have "slipped a cog" someplace along the line ..I never said ANYTHING about NEBRASKA CITY..The location is Table Rock.  You can just barely see the east end of the depot over the tail end of the PZ which..again, fitts "Table Rock"  That double step "step box" would have been useful in the territory the PZ was running in in those "latter days".  The towns between Lincoln and St. Joe via Tecumseh and those along the Republican River line from TR to Wymore and thence up the Wymore-Crete line had less than "up to date" platforms.  I have seen these before.

Pete - The trainman is indeed "out of uniform," but I'll speculate it's summer time and maybe the A/C isn't working up-to-snuff on the Pioneer Zephyr.  Can't see if the trainman still has his dark tie on or not..... If the location is Nebraska City, then "why" can't we see any evidence of the station other than the weed grown retaining wall for the brick platform behind the Zephyr.  The passengers who appear to be boarding are walking on cinders and dirt. Also the two-step step stool is unlike any I ever saw on a modern Zephyr.  Interesting old image - Louis

Thanks Louis..I did take the lack of shadows into consideration in "positing" the "about noon time" conclusion.

Also..indeed I didn't mention it but thought about it..The trainman is dressed a bit "informally"  ie short sleeve white shirt which was kind of "typical" in the "latter days" of passenger service.

With your "semi concurrence" of my analysis I'll stick by my Table Rock location...

Mike..let's hear from you??

Pete

Pete - From the lack of shadows in the image, the sun must've been pretty much overhead making it about noon time.  The location may well be Table Rock. Merry Christmas - Louis

Louis..That photo is driving me crazy as to location...in 59 the PZ was still running Lincoln-St. Joe..Lincoln about midnight..St. Joe early am..Lv St. Joe about 11:00 am for Lincoln via Table Rock..THEREFORE I'm thinking it might be Table Rock with the train heading around the south leg of the wye which would make it south of the depot on the Wymore line..those tank cars are on the north or east side of the depot on the siding on the Line to Lincoln.  If that's correct the time would be around noon or a bit after..train will run to Wymore via Table Rock as No. 41 then as 90 Wymore to Lincoln.

How about it Mike Bartels or anybody else familiar with the territory.

Pete

Keith - Like it's said, a picture can be worth a thousand words.... I've attached a rear view of the Pioneer Zephyr taken in 1959 at an unknown location.  The image clearly shows the rear-facing lights.  Merry Christmas - Louis

Louis and John,

Thank you so much for responding to my question regarding the rear-facing lights on the Pioneer Zephyr.  That will help me to accurately detail my S scale model.
