thanks Lenny...You have confirmed and verified (is that redundant) my opinion of that guy..The way that you described how and what he did gave me an exact picture of what he would be like...and probably how he would be dressed.  Those guys were "proud of their jobs"..and knew how to do them..and resented anybody telling them what to do..especially some "still wet behind the ears"..(how's that for an old time _expression_) Trailnmaster or road foreman.  

Every time I read something like this or think about how it was "back in the day"..I give thanks that I got to be a part of "real railroading" as "God intended"..I even have the paycheck stubs to prove it.

Pete,

Every time I would see this particular engineer he would be dressed in pressed striped overhauls, white shirt with tie and starched stripped Kromer hat.
He was the preverbal Burlington Man.
