Here's my 2 cents. While I'm inclined to agree this is probably Rochelle and if so somethings aren't adding up. The bulk oil plant was across the street on the North side from the depot but set back a ways. The area between it and the mains had a pig ramp and parking area in 1973 when I worked there. I can't recall ever seeing the structure shown with the stacks and coal unloader. That are where stock 1 and 2 came off the pass. The concrete block bins with sand in them would be correct location for Rochelle Redi mix on the south side of the mains off the Kennedy track.

Bob are you certain the gas plant lasted into the 90s ? I think the location is correct but I just don't recall seeing a building like this in Rochelle in the 70s. The closest thing to it would be the Rochelle utilities building which was west of the depot and east of the CNW xing off main 1.

I believe what were searching for was just east of the diagonal xing, which was east of the depot. The building was accessed from the storage track. Caron was west of that and served from the main.

I agree with Bob - this is not the factory.  The track arrangement is wrong for the Caron spur.  I'll look at the drawing tonight to try and pin this down.  Great photo of Rochelle, though!

The location appears to be adjacent to the old Standard Oil bulk depot, which was just east of the depot. That would make the structure the gas manufacturing plant. The building stood until the mid-90s and I took some photos. I believe what's being called the sponge iron plant was located on a siding west of the gas plant, between the Caron spinning mill spur and what would become the Standard Oil pipeline terminal. The building that housed the sponge plant housed other businesses over the years.
