The location appears to be adjacent to the old Standard Oil bulk depot, which was just east of the depot. That would make the structure the gas manufacturing plant. The building stood until the mid-90s and I took some photos. I believe what's being called the sponge iron plant was located on a siding west of the gas plant, between the Caron spinning mill spur and what would become the Standard Oil pipeline terminal.
