I'm a long way from North America and live in the subtropics but the CB&Q has interested me since the mid sixties. Out here, our DELs used to be painted blue and grey and both colours faded very quickly especially the blue. Looking at a group of locos, what stood out was no two were ever the same shade. Even the colour seemed to shift probably because the different pigments in the paint faded at different rates. Myself, I prefer to see variation in my models. Some how it looks right.

Great, now if the Society would provide those color chips to manufacturers producing CB&Q equipment, maybe we wouldn't have 'fifty shades of gray' on our models.

Another example of color infidelity is the grayback color of Walthers P2K F-3s and F-7s compared to Intermountain FTs, F3 and F-7s. I think Intermountain got it right, while Walthers P2K is yellowish.
