At least in this case since the grain was shipped by the elevator company the farmer avoided a direct loss.

Although farmers as a group probably suffered an indirect loss based on what the elevators paid for grain delivered from the the farm.

Of course in the case of elevators that were owned as a co-op the loss was more direct.
