John,

Let's give Pete a true case so he can explain the claim process. Here goes.

When I moved to Yorkville way back in 1988 the elevator was still operating. Steve, the one west of Rte 47 on the little two car siding. Not the larger one downtown.

After I bought what I had wanted,I asked the gentleman when was the last time he had shipped by rail. The answer came immediately,in 1964. We sent a car of corn to Chicago and it got lost.
Months later it was found in Baltimore and was half empty. Last time ever shipped by rail. Have trucked everything to the river since.

Relative to my previous message (see below) I know that livestock shippers had to absorb the "shrinkage" caused by injury, death or weight loss. What was the case with other volatile freight?

Previous message:
Many have talked about the frequency of leakage.
That leakage would have changed the delivered quantity/weight.

Who got stuck with the revenue loss caused by the leakage, the shipper, the consignee or the RR?
