Rick,
There was an article in October 1958 issue of Trains about meat
trains. The focus was on the Illinois Central, but there is also
discussion on other railroads trains at South Omaha.
The operating data sheets that the BRHS republished about 15 years
also has information about what trains were supposed to work at
Pacific Junction and at Omaha.
One former Omaha trainmaster told me at one time the Q had 16 switch
jobs working on a shift in the Omaha-Council Bluffs area.

How did the Q interchange traffic in the Omaha area? Would
everything find its way to Lincoln for classification and
forwarding to Denver, Chicago or Kansas City? Would they use
Pacific Jct to move stuff south or for east-west trains to pick
up blocks?
Also, how did they interchange with the other railroads in
Omaha, were there transfer runs between the UP, RI, Milwaukee,
CN&W and MoPac? It seems there would be a fair amount of
interchange at the stockyards but I'm interested in the other
general freight generated and received for all the industries in
the downtown area.
Are there any books or articles that cover the operations in the
Omaha area?
Thanks
Ricky Keil
