Lenny,

A quick Geology Lesson, Porosity is the spaces in the rock that are able to hold water (among other things). Permeability is the ability for the water to move from space to space.  Your slag may have holes but not the ability to move from space to space.  A fine example: Oil Shale it has porosity which is so small it cannot flow and be useful  as fuel.  Technology is catching up to problem and in places is in use.

Nelson,

From what I recall, slag would be difficult to model as its surface was covered in holes. I wouldn't describe it as porous though.
