You may not find a picture of the exact ash pit, you are looking for, but try to find an old "Railway Engineering Cyclopedia" for some views of typical ash handling facilities.

How many people thought of taking a photo of an ash pit??  Most coal Chutes are in the back ground of photos.  Often there is more in the back ground then what the photographer was taking
