 My late friend, Ed DeRouin, obtained a EMD "Field Service News" document outlining and describing their model designations from his contact at EMD. It shows the FT's and FS's (and others) and I have attached it to this reply. The FT B units did not have batteries and relied on the A units for that function. FT sets could have been delivered with couplers between B units or all units linked. My EMD Instruction Manual for CB&Q #100 to 115, Plate 3782, shows all units with links. The ATSF units were FS models with couplers. Regards  Jerry Albin
