Thanks Bud.  So I'm still trying to figure out if and when the Wabash transferred the origin point of the Keokuk branch from Clayton to Bluffs.  Please notify us when the Quincy line book becomes available!

The 20 mile section from Quincy to Camp point was completed on January 19, 1855 by the Northern Cross Rail Road.  They operated the trackage from January 31, 1856 to February 10, 1857 when a newly formed company, the Quincy and Chicago Rail Road Company took over operations.  The Quincy and Chicago Rail Road Company operated the line for 2 months and then entered into a common operative management agreement with the CB&Q Rail Road.  They operated under the common management agreement from April 10, 1857 to April 28, 1864 at which time the line was purchased by the CB&Q Rail Road.  On june 24, 1864 the CB&Q Rail Road became the CB&Q Railroad and they received the master deed on July 30, 1865.

The 1867 Annual report contains as a supplement, an agreement between the Toledo, Wabash, & Western Railway Company and the CB&Q Railroad Company dated October 26, 1866.  The agreement provided rules for the Wabash having joint trackage and facility rights between Quincy and Camp Point and also required a commitment for the Wabash to share in the expenses of building the new Mississippi River bridge at Quincy.  A day earlier another similar agreement had been signed between the Wabash and the Hannibal and St. Joseph Railroad Company.  It gave the Wabash rights to conduct freight and passenger operations at Quincy and other considerations in return for agreeing to sell  all interests in the Quincy & Palmyra Railroad Company to the Hannibal & St Joseph Railroad Company.  The Hannibal & St. Joseph Railroad Company also agreed to join the CB&Q and the Wabash in the expenses of the Mississippi River bridge construction.  In November of 1866, the 3 railroads formed the Quincy Bridge Company and the bridge was completed in October of 1868.  

The answer to your question is the CB&Q purchased the line from the the Quincy and Chicago Rail Road Company which was the successor to the Northern Cross Railroad.  One of the Wabash predecessor lines  the Quincy and Toledo, was formed to complete their line from Camp Point to Meredosia.  The November 25, 1860 combined management timetable lists all the conditions of joint operations such as who furnishes the wood and water enroute.  

All of the above is in Chapter 1 of the Quincy line book I am working on and planning to complete by June of this year.  It has the above mentioned agreements in the appendix as well as detailed diagrams and statistics of the original bridge.  Bud Linroth.

On page 427 of Baldwin’s Corporate History (as at 1917) is a list of trackage rights including the Camp Point to Quincy track, showing that the contract dated from 30 November 1899.  While it doesn’t show when the Burlington purchased the track, it does confirm that the other party was the Wabash.

Can anyone help me with a date for the CB&Q's purchase of the track from Camp Point Illinois to Quincy?  It originally belonged to one of the predecessor's of the Wabash if I understand correctly.
