Bill,
Thanks for the info, but my interest is in getting (or custom modifying) some of the individual pre-war Budd cars that were part of the 'Zephyr Pool', and make up various consists from the 60's. The MTH HO Empire State Express cars have a real possibility! They are about the only non-brass passenger cars out there that have the small roof corrugations that run down to the tops of the window bands. Walthers, and others, have a blank letterboard that runs the full length of the car (except for the just released AT&SF 'San Francisco Chief' Dining car). My modeling time frame is 1955 to 1967 and if you look at photos of the TCZ, KCZ and other trains from that era- they were interspersed with the pre-war cars frequently.

Yes- I saw the GPZ set on Ebay. I have a problem with the roofs (no short roof spars over the roof ends) and the letterboard on the Diner/Lounge/Observation. The as-delivered Observation car had a large letterboard on both sides of the side-doors that said BURLINGTON ZEPHYR. The later modified cars had a short letterboard in front of the side doors only that was centered over the lower name board- and was lettered BURLINGTON. Hallmark apparently mirrored the letterboards on both sides with 'short-long' board on the left side and a 'long-short' board on the right side. This would make you put ZEPHYR BURLINGTON on the left side and BURLINGTON ZEPHYR on the right side! Still pondering over the set though.
