Meridith Printing - that's what I was searching for in my memory. Milwaukee / Des Moines Union RR had a yard that would fit this location. Not sure if they had a turntable & roundhouse. Before my time.

Meredith Printing building had a similar looking tower near the CB&Q yards in Des Moines, but the curve of the track is wrong for the view. Would have to do more research but i don't think there was any millwork business near the Q yards either. I'm still sticking with Dubuque. I think that tower is the Dubuque county court house.

Looking at later photos in Peoria, I don't think that's where this photo was taken.  So I'll toss out a new possibility:  How about Des Moines?  The Q had an 80-foot turntable there and an eight-stall roundhouse, and the industrialization certainly fits a city of that size.  That tower at the left should be identifiable.

Doug's right about the sign, and this third image (attached) clearly gives us the best chance of identifying the location.  That's a distinctive sanding tower, and what about that building tower hiding behind the smokestack at the far left?  It's a reasonably big city, and that's a fair sized roundhouse.  It all seems reminiscent of Peoria to me, but I haven't been at the Q facilities there since 1963 and don't remember much.

In reverse image it looks like the billboard reads Carr & Welsh.

Bill,

There is another photo from the same collection on Ebay Item #221574924521 that has what appears to be the same roof sign in the back ground.

Art,

I agree with you. The name on the building is not Case. The lower word appears to be "SASH" The sign behind the pole which is seen in reverse, may not be Carmichael. I tried to wok on the name on the building just in front of the locomotive, but had no luck. Maybe the original print is sharper. I also agree with Nolen Null that the second photo on E-Bay was probably taken at the same time and place.

Would this be Dubuque? The bottom word on the building looks like "SASH"
and top word "CA..."

Eagle Window and Door used to be Carr, Adams and Collier Company and their
plant was downtown near the river and the RR.
