Well I guess you could say that..."some were and some weren't"...Some have 
observed over the years that you can't expect "gentlemanly" conduct when you 
put a man who has been  "rassling boxcars for 40 years until he gets enough 
seniority to run a passenger train to be a "gentlemen" at all times...


I think that whether a guy is a "gentleman" or not depends on his own 
personalty and moral values....I had the privilege of working with both types.

Back in 1921, the Burlington’s vice-president announced that the Burlington was 
conducting a courtesy campaign among itsemployes. He said "In the management of 
a property requiring 60,000employes it is expecting too much that every one of 
them will be a 'perfectgentleman,' but we are determined that the percentage of 
'perfect gentlemen' inour employ shall be as high as we can make it."
 
Are you suggesting that the “oldheads” were not perfect gentlemen?

As I said earlier I did get to work withseveral real "old heads" and got in on 
lots of good stories. andcolorful nick names...most of which are unprintable on 
this list.
