I had a good friend when I lived in South Holland, IL who along with his
brother owned a furniture store..Their father had been an upholsterer for the
Pullman Company at their Calumet shops...He was a Polish Immigrant..I never got
to meet him, but I should have made the effort to do so..He would have had some
interesting stories

The non-operating "old heads" had their fair share of characters and stories,
too. My grandfather and two great uncles relayed plenty of interesting yarns
from the DT&I Car Shops in Jackson, OH. Granddad was particularly proud of
working on Henry Ford's personal car, before Ford sold the DT&I to the Pennsy.
He was a painter. I believe both great uncles were machinists.

Bill et al....I, too, have sometimes thought that "I was born 30 years too
late"...I missed steam...came close one time in working the Ravenna switch
engine in 1956, but unfortunately (for me) both the locals got in on time and
we didn't get to use the "black beauty (5080) and my one time, close, but no
cigar opportunity was lost forever.

As I said earlier I did get to work with several real "old heads" and got in
on lots of good stories. and colorful nick names...most of which are
unprintable on this list.
