Rupert, There was wide variance between men's language and decorum in frt service and passenger service. Generally passenger men were more reserved, and acted more professional. Part of it was the uniform and the presence of women. Generally, You could take a frt man, put him in a uniform and he was considerably different in his word choice and actions. But here's one exception I found in the "investigation" files of the Aurora local. This was in the late 40s or early 50s. A lady boards on eastbound train at Galesburg and while detraining at Aurora the brkmn engages her in conversation. She mentioned that she had been away from her husband for some time and was going home to make him breakfast. The brakeman commented that she might also do something else for him. She reported said comment to Aurora mgmt who called the brkmn in for an investigation. The transcript was a real interesting read.
