The Willmar & Sioux Falls was absorbed by the GN on July 1, 1907, so I suspect
would not be listed separately after that. There were six passenger cars that
were transferred to the CB&Q from the Willmar & Sioux Falls/Great Northern.
Willmar & Sioux Falls coaches 76-79 (originally built as Pacific Short Line
101-104) became CB&Q 5501-5504. WSF passenger and baggage cars 432 and 433
(originally PSL 301 and 302) became CB&Q 3029 and 3030. These went into company
service in 1927-1929.
There were two cabooses transferred to the CB&Q. The earliest numbers that I
have for these are Sioux City & Western 900 and 901, but they were built in
1890, so my guess would be that they were originally Pacific Short Line
cabooses. Their last numbers on the WSF were O855 and O856. I believe they were
built by Sioux City Car Company, but do not know what numbers they were
assigned by CB&Q. A quick perusal of The Burlington Waycars did not turn up any
likely candidates, but Randy Danniel might have some ideas of possible
candidates.
As for freight cars, the following were listed as being owned by the Sioux City
& Western in 1900:
1021-1220 Box Cars, 40,000 lb. capacity, wieght 26,200 lb.
1221-1270 Box Cars, 50,000 lb. capacity, weight 24,750 lb.
5001-5150 Flat Cars, 50,000 lb. capacity, no weight given (some of these had
been rebuilt to box cars)
Some of these cars are shown as having been destroyed, so certainly the full
number indicated by the series would not have gone to the CB&Q. I do not know
if these were given new numbers by the Willmar & Sioux Falls or not, but it
wouldn't surprise me.
If someone in the Twin Cities were willing to visit the Minnesota Historical
Society, likely places to look would be GN Historic Car Records Vol. 91 and 92,
both of which are listed as "Willmar & Sioux Falls Freight Car Records." There
is such a massive amount of freight car data in the Historic Car Records that I
have never attempted to deal with it --passenger cars, cabooses and maintenance
equipment data were about all that I ever found time to transcribe.

Ken
Thanks for this explanation. Do you know if any "cars or other rolling stock"
were actually transferred? I found the Willmar & Sioux Falls in the 1904 ORER
showing over 1000 freight cars and cabooses lettered GN / W&SF but the company
was no longer listed in the December 1908 issue. Interestingly, the CB&Q
acquired two new groups of old box cars in 1908 - 17000-17184 and 17200-17242
that match, more or less, the W&SF 85436-85830 (even numbers, 198 cars) and
85832-85930 (even numbers 50 cars) shown in the 1904 ORER. However, I can't
account for any of the other freight cars and cabooses listed.
Does anyone have a 1907 or early 1908 ORER who could check the Willmar &
Sioux Falls listing, please?

The December 1, 1908, deed that deeded the Sioux City & Western to the CB&Q
specified that all "locomotives, cars, and other rolling stock and equipment"
be transferred to the CB&Q.
