The Q must've been happy with quality and price of the out-sourced boiler as they went back two years later in 1937 to Baldwin for the series of O-5-A boilers.

Extra Order plates reflect a "sales order number" of a MAJOR product that BLW would build.  Typically, they were boilers - however, I have seen a couple applications where a new frame was built and, in one instance, an entire valve

assembly.

 

The numbers were normally a 4 digit number so as not to conflict with construction numbers - hence the dash (-) followed by the year.

 

There were a few XO (extra order) plates that were applied post WW2 when the 5 sided plate came into being - and were shown as 6-digit numbers with a dash (-) with the year after that.

 

There is no known data in the DeGolyer records as far as a list of of "XO" numbers.
