Yes, per page 15 of that BB, HC-1As were painted in the mineral red paint scheme, but at least some (one?) of the HC-1As were obviously painted black, as per that photograph.  My Bowser car came numbered as 181467, which is the number for an HC-1A, not an HC-1B.  That is why I decided it needed to be renumbered as 181457, to match the photograph on page 58.  Another alternative was to renumber it for an HC-1B, such as #181567.  Maybe I didn't make my logic clear in my earlier email.  I did find an old Champ decal set that had numbers that matched fairly closely.

I took a look at BB#20 and though it says that HC-1bs got the black scheme, the photo on page 58 shows #181457 in the scheme Bowser used, so don't be too quick to renumber.
