Speaking of things that people have mentioned before <grin> take the 
Sanborn maps with a grain of salt.  They are better than nothing, but 
if they do show railroad facilities it is as a peripheral thing--none 
of the towns I'm researching for my own model railroad have decent 
Sanborn coverage.  Old plat maps provide better information on the 
railroad facilities, at least in my experience...
