I feel your pain Jan! Slides for both of my favorite RRs (Q and RI) wind up going for big bucks. I've seen good Q freight cars go for over $50. I've got caught up in bidding and have placed bids more than I feel I should, then the slides goes for 3x or 4x what I bid. Glad I started collecting slides decades ago and have a large collection. No way in the world I could afford to do it today! Thanks! I realize it's a free country and that's how capitalism works, but it's really annoying to try to get decent slides when apparently some people have no problem spending any amount of money to get a slide...I'm talking $60-$80 bucks PER SLIDE (and sometimes more) for some. I just can't justify that kind of expenditure for single slides, because I will just scan them and put them on my website for people to view for free...I suppose some people are intent on making a buck by selling copies to others.
