Michael-

I am copying this to three other groups that might be interested in and have the answers to this question.

The CB&Q had major interests in the REA.   I earier asked why the CB&Q, unlike other similar roads, did not have any REA Express reefers with BURLINGTON lettering assigned to it.

In general photos of CB&Q trains seem to lack REA express reefers in the consist (except for GN and NP cars on the Twin Cities line).

Your question asks what were the parameters for handling REA shipments….did a car have to be pre-leased to handle REA shipments and was a requirement that the car be so designated by lettering or was this an advertising artifact by the railroads / REA?  Was an REA employee or designated RR crewmember present with shipments (requiring a car with messenger facilities or would any baggage space or corner of a car suffice?    I don’t have either the REA book or the “Turtle” book that might have the answers in general but would certainly like to learn more about the CB&Q and REA.

New to the group, but not to N scale modeling or the CB&Q. Almost 45 years working with N scale and other scales, have been modeling the CB&Q, AT&SF, GN and NP for most of that time. My family worked for the Q since the 1940's. And now for a question.

After looking at photos of the CB&Q I noticed that only a very few (maybe 4)Budd streamlined baggage and baggage mail cars have the Railroad Express Agency lettering on the car. Where these cars not under contract with the REA?
