I’m fuzzy on the dates but it falls into the era 1972-1977 when I was living in Bolingbrook and taking the Q in from either Lisle or Belmont (depending on the parking at the two stations)….
….seems to me that about 1973 the original cars were being sent out to be converted to HEP (or was it a general rebuild, don’t recall) and they were using ex-C&NW cars from the Q and GN (not sure if some of the BN painted ones were from the NP but I don’t recall NCL colors in the trains). Not sure if all the Power cars were retired by then. I think the Morrison-Knudsen E rebuilds were in service by 1973. Just remember being hauled by the “Putz”…..if it was painted Green I didn’t pay a lot of attention to it.

Subject: Re: [CBQ] Commuter push-pull
The BN/WSMTD took delivery of 20 cab cars in 1973, bringing the total on the line to 26. I believe it was at this time that all trains where then push-pull. So, depending on when you were working in 1973, not all trains were push-pull yet.
When were the single level cars all retired then?
Does anyone (Leo?) know when the dinkies went to all push-pull?
I seem to remember working some as brakeman in 1973 that had a silver unit (E?) on east end with single level coaches (and Izzy and Larry Groesch together up front).
Or maybe I'm confusing memories of riding as a customer before I hired on......
