What's "HEP"? And I didn't know they were all ex-GN. Were the silver engines all E9s? I wonder when all units were green. And I assume those consists didn't have electric brakes. Wonder about the air brake set-up on the unit (old style lap?)

I believe 73 was also the year we used flat top coaches while the fleet was converted to HEP. Once completed the old GN cars were gone

Thanks. I never noticed many single level cars sitting around in storage (14th St, Eola or Hill Yd) after that. But they may have been.

The BN/WSMTD took delivery of 20 cab cars in 1973, bringing the total on the line to 26.  I believe it was at this time that all trains where then push-pull.  So, depending on when you were working in 1973, not all trains were push-pull yet.

When were the single level cars all retired then?

Does anyone (Leo?) know when the dinkies went to all push-pull?

I seem to remember working some as brakeman in 1973 that had a silver unit (E?) on east end with single level coaches (and Izzy and Larry Groesch together up front).

Or maybe I'm confusing memories of riding as a customer before I hired on......
