The era I'm modelling is around 1960, when I can run my Kato CZ set or late 1990s, when I can use either BN or BNSF stock and all the modern stock.

Most of the photos I have are of the 2 track era. i.e post 1966.  My own set of photos were taken in 2008 after the depot was removed.

The short stretch of line which I am modelling is from the Elmwood branch junction to the bridge just west of the depot.  ALthough the composite track plan that I am using is pre 1960.  By including Buda feed & seed, the scenery dates it to post 1965 and the new concrete bridge as post 1990 I think.  I have only 1 photo of the old wooden bridge which might be more appropriate..

Yes, for pure interests sake I would be interested in the exact locations of the signal gantries.

Another point on the signal bridges.  I don't know what era you are modeling or if you care, but before 1966, the two signal bridges in town on either side of the Buda station were 3 track.  They were changed to 2 track bridges in 1966, and the west bridge moved closer to the station.  There were two other signal bridges prior to 1966 near the outer ends of the passing tracks on both ends of town, and they were 2 track.  If you want more detail on exactly where the signal bridges were, and other details, let me know.

Paul,

I missed that you were in N gauge.  The NJ model is a really close model for the Q signal bridge.  I know several HO modelers who are using them and they look quite realistic.  They should look great in N Scale, as well.  You're on your own for the signals in N scale, though!

I just passed by Buda this weekend on a charter trip from Chicago to KC that I took on the Cedar Rapids Skytop Lounge.  Here is a link to the car:

Granted, it's not the Q, but it is a magnificent car.  Strangely enough, due to a derailment at Keewanee, we ended up going out on the old Santa Fe main to Galesburg (Southwest Chief) and back on the Q main.  A great time and what a way to travel by train.  The trip was run by Mike Abernethy, who is trying to raise money to restore the Silver View TCZ dome-observation car.  Several people commented on the car moving to Charles City a few weeks ago to continue restoration.

Rich,

many thanks.  I have looked at the site and they do it in N gauge.

Paul,

If you are looking for the signal bridge, here is the best representation of the signal bridge for the Q:

I scratchbuilt mine before these were available.  I used signals from Oregon Rail Supply, but there are other ones for the Q available from several diifferent manufacturers.  I'm sure someone on the list will recommend a close match.

Thank you to all you that have helped me in my attempt to model Buda.

The layout is well on the way to completion. However, I would like some advice on the signal gantries.

Is the 2-Track B&O Signal Bridge from http://www.traincat2.com/
the most appropriate starting point and what sort of signal heads should I be looking for.

Thank you in advance for all your help.

Paul Evans (from the U.K.)
