As I'm sure you remember, the tangent between Machens and Perkins and beyond is heavily armored with rip-rap.  At the Perkins end of the control siding there are two pre-cast signal bridge foundations that have been cast to the side of the embankment and still serve as rip-rap.  When the CTC was put in between Old Monroe and Machens, two 2 track signal bridges were fabricated in 1947 and installed at MP 27.07 and MP 28.83, because the 2nd main was actually extended west from Machens to what became Perkins.  In 1960 when CTC was extended east of Machens, the two signal bridges were taken out and sent to the storehouse.  When CTC was extended from Aurora to Galesburg starting in 1964, the two signal bridges were re-used at MP 54.21 and 56.95 on either side of Sandwich.  The CB&Q reused everything, even concrete for rip-rap.

Glen,  Sometimes between summer of 47 and summer of 48 the control point at the north end of Machens was named Perkins.  It shows up in ETT 90 but is not in ETT 88.  I am missing #89 so it could have been added there.  Many of the stations on the original H&StJo were named after high ranking officials as well as area farmer who were longstanding pioneers.  I can list them but we may have covered this some time earlier and I don't want to be redundant.  Thanks for your research at Newberry, hope it went well.  I would like to journey there myself to research the Hannibal facts.  Archie
