Nelson,

I don't know anything specific about a sand house for Burlington but at many small facilities sand was dried by a "pot belly stove" with a screen apron around it. Sand was shoveled into the apron and as it dried it would trickle through the screen and fall out.

I am attaching a picture of the sand drier in Leadville, CO on the Leadville, Colorado and Southern. It was left by the C&S.
