Technically, I guess they did......
......when the Brookfield Zoo was built, the CB&Q delivered many of the animals
to the Zoo (probably using the team track which stub ended on the north side of
the main at Prairie Avenue in Brookfield). I seem to remember a Chicago
Tribune article with a photo showing giraffes being led out of a boxcar (IIRC a
conventional 50Ft Double Door Steel Boxcar).
No hole in the roof, however.

It does sound like an odd obsession with ostriches. Did the Q have
any giraffe cars? :^)
