Additional AMTRAK remains info. If you are a railroad employee with a pass
your remains can be shipped using the pass (AMTRAK employees are basically
free, while other RR employees are 1/2 price off home road and free on home
road).. This also applys to retirees. A passenger who dies enroute can be
returnef using their return ticket as payment. I have been retired for nearly 5
years. but, I believe the rulles have not changed. A friend of mine was dying
of cancer but wanted a last train ride, died enroute and came home in a box
using his return ticket as payment. And a BN firemen died on vacation and
returned to the Twin Cities using his pass as payment. Both cases saved the
family some expense. I also know of several old friends who made their last
rides on a streetcar and Light-rail as cremated ashes.
