In 1869 the Clarksville & Western Railway was organized, initial plans were to
push north to Louisiana and meet with the Chicago & Alton.
In April 1871 the charter was amended for a southern extension.
Dec, 1875 the St.LK&NW began the work south out of Hannibal, completed in
Jan,1877. Trans began running Feb 1877.
The following years the line was pushed south, and the original plans called
for
a stake to be driven in the ground every 4 miles, at each stake a station would
be put in place.

You will notice to this day that between Clarksville and Old Monroe that all
the
small towns are fairly evenly spaced. The only reason some distances are
longer
is because the station/town failed and was abandoned (Kissenger, Dameron
Corners)

Cheers!
