The three cars in South Dakota had been in a scrap yard below the Speer Blvd Viaduct in Denver prior to ending up in the Black Hills. In fact, the whole trainset was sitting there and one of the sleepers had been cut down to its floor. I would see the set regularly there throughout the early and mid 70's. In fact, when I saw the Silver Streak's nameplate hanging on the wall behind the concession stand at the Cherry Creek Cinema during the showing of the movie by the same name there, I thought the trainset had been totally scrapped. --- On Sun, 1/23/11, Jeffrey <jterry618@hotmail.com> wrote: From: Jeffrey <jterry618@hotmail.com> Subject: [CBQ] Re: TZ cars for sale at Hill City To: CBQ@yahoogroups.com Date: Sunday, January 23, 2011, 11:25 AM Thanks for the information regarding these cars. Bill Heckman (owner/operator of the Black Hills Central) must have had some good connections at the CB&Q at the time when these cars were donated (late 1960s I'm guessing?) I know the relationship deteriorated over the years, especially after BN took over, because Heckman was often late to pay his bills. The situation came to a head in the mid-1980s when the BN took him to court to get C&S 9 back.
