I was in Hill City last summer. There is a tourist train there, the Black Hills Central RR, and a small rail museum, so I assume these cars were part of that museum. The town was served by the CB&Q and I thought Hill City was actually named after James Hill, but I can't find anything to substantiate that, so imagine I am mis-remembering. --- In CBQ@yahoogroups.com, "Phil " <pstepek@...> wrote: > > all I know is they were offered for sale several years ago on eBay for 20k > each, and no takers then > > part of the issue is they are on orphan rail and will need to be trucked > about 20 miles through rough terrain to get to the closest live rail. > and then either repaired or put on flat cars > it will not be cheap > > From: Jeffrey > Sent: Friday, January 21, 2011 1:26 PM > To: CBQ@yahoogroups.com > Subject: [CBQ] TZ cars for sale at Hill City > > > > (3) Budd Built Passenger Cars > (1) Observation/Lounge Car built in 1936 > (1)Baggage/Dormitory Car built in 1936 > (1) Coach/Buffet/Dining Car built in 1938 > Price: $100,000 for all 3 cars Location: SD > > Does anyone know how these ended up in Hill City in the first place? > > Jeff Terry > > > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] > ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
